讲座摘要：
This talk examines the tension between characterizing language as a system for describing the world vs.
a system for communicating subjective perspective.By focusing on the interaction of subjective attitude verbs
and scalar predicates, it will be argued that a resolution of this tension must incorporate a model of language
users’awareness of the arbitrariness of choices they make about how to resolve uncertainty about meaning in
a communicative context.
